NeuralStackApple released the first iOS 20 beta on July 14 2026 embedding a 3 billion parameter on-device language model. The model handles summarization keyboard prediction and basic Siri enhancements entirely on A19 and M4 chips. Early testing shows a 70 percent reduction in cloud API calls for supported features.
The model uses 4-bit quantization and occupies 1.8 GB of storage. Apple also introduced a private cloud compute option for tasks exceeding on-device capacity with end-to-end encryption. Developers can access the model through new APIs in the beta SDK released the same day.
Apple announced its on-device AI strategy at WWDC 2025 and has since acquired two startups specializing in efficient inference. The company maintains that user data never leaves the device during local processing. iOS 20 is scheduled for general release in September 2026 alongside macOS 15.

The integration demonstrates that capable generative AI can run on consumer hardware without constant connectivity.
