Cohere announced a 500 million dollar Series E on July 26 2026 valuing the company at 6.5 billion dollars. Inovia Capital led the round with Nvidia and Salesforce Ventures joining as new investors. Existing backers including Tiger Global and Radical Ventures also participated.

The Toronto-based startup reported 180 million dollars in annualized recurring revenue as of June 2026 up 210 percent year over year. Command R+ now serves 1,200 enterprise customers including four Fortune 100 banks.

Proceeds will fund a new data center in Frankfurt and expansion of multilingual fine-tuning capabilities for 28 languages. Cohere plans to hire 400 engineers by December 2026.

Cohere was founded in 2019 by former Google researchers and has focused exclusively on enterprise large language models. The company released Command R+ in March 2025 with 128k context and tool-use features.

Previous funding included a 270 million dollar Series D in 2024 at 2.2 billion valuation.

Why this matters

The round demonstrates continued investor appetite for specialized enterprise AI vendors despite broader market caution. Cohere's focus on data residency and compliance differentiates it from US hyperscalers in regulated industries.

European customers gain a credible alternative that avoids sending data to US servers. The capital injection accelerates competition in the retrieval-augmented generation tooling layer.

Expect additional enterprise AI startups to pursue similar late-stage rounds before 2027.
