Perplexity AI announced a 650 million Series C on July 21 2026. The round values the company at 5.8 billion and was led by Andreessen Horowitz. Nvidia and Amazon Web Services also participated.
Funds will expand the company's real-time search index to 120 billion pages. Perplexity plans to hire 400 engineers by December 2026. Current monthly active users stand at 48 million.
The startup launched its first model in 2024 and has since added citation verification tools. Revenue reached 180 million dollars annualized in June 2026.
Existing investors include Bessemer Venture Partners and IVP. The new capital gives Perplexity runway through 2028 at current burn rates.
Why this matters
The funding round shows investor appetite for specialized AI search despite competition from Google. Perplexity can now scale its answer engine to enterprise customers with custom indexes.
Industry observers expect similar rounds from other vertical AI startups in the coming months. Perplexity will release an on-premise version in Q4 2026.
