Anthropic announced a 4.2 billion dollar Series G round on July 21 2026 at a 52 billion dollar valuation. Amazon contributed 1.5 billion dollars while Google added another 1.5 billion dollars. Existing investors including FTX creditors participated through secondary sales.

Proceeds will support Claude 4 training on a new 40 trillion token dataset and construction of three 100000 GPU clusters in Texas and Ireland. The company hired 420 additional engineers in the past quarter. Revenue reached 1.8 billion dollars annualized in June 2026.

Anthropic previously raised 8.5 billion dollars across prior rounds since 2023. The firm maintains its constitutional AI safety framework and publishes quarterly risk reports. Claude 3.5 Sonnet remains the top model on LMSYS arena leaderboard.

Valuation growth reflects 340 percent year-over-year revenue increase and enterprise adoption by 12000 companies. Microsoft continues to resell Claude through Azure despite the new Google investment.

Why this matters

The round solidifies Anthropic as the second most valuable AI startup behind OpenAI. Dual investment from Amazon and Google creates complex cloud dependencies that may attract antitrust scrutiny. Smaller labs face increased difficulty attracting talent and compute.

Investors expect Anthropic to reach 10 billion dollars in revenue by 2027. The funding also accelerates safety research initiatives including mechanistic interpretability projects.

Anthropic plans to open a Tokyo office in August 2026 and release Claude 4 in early 2027.
